The camp is built around a kopje, a huge granite rock that rises above the plains. The tents and the main area with restaurant, bar and terraces blend harmoniously into the surroundings and offer magnificent views over the savannah.
The interiors are comfortable and furnished with great attention to detail, giving you the authentic feeling of being on safari.
Olduvai's 17 lodges are arranged around the kopje. The thatched tents stand high on stone terraces overlooking the plains.
All the large canvas safari tents are similar in layout and decoration, but each has its own special bush feel.
With private viewing decks, large bedrooms, dressing rooms and en-suite bathrooms (flush toilet, wash basin and shower with 24-hour hot water), the furnishings are kept in the earth tones of the plains.
The public areas are built into the rock under an impressive thatched roof. The main bar offers spectacular views of the plains and is a comfortable meeting place for a drink before or after dinner. The rustic and impressive main restaurant is centrally located and can seat up to 40 guests. A little higher up in the kopjes is a second restaurant that can accommodate up to 10 guests.
After an eventful day on safari, a sundowner in the private atmosphere of our small lounge high up in the rocks is a highlight.
"Ndogo" means "small" in Swahili - Olduvai's smaller sister is set on the Kiloki-Kopjes plateau and offers a breathtaking view over the vast Serengeti plains. During the migration hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebras graze directly in front of the camp. The distance between the main camp and Olduvai Ndogo is about one kilometer. Small Masai villages lie halfway between the two camps and guests are invited to visit and learn more about their traditional way of life.
